The launching of the Samoa Knowledge Society Initiative on Friday 20th December 2019 at the National University of Samoa signifies the start of a knowledge movement across the country. In her remarks at the launch, the UN Resident Coordinator Simona Marinescu reiterated the value of “knowledge as the most empowering resource and it needs to be a public good readily available for everyone”.
A survey was conducted to find the status of digitization in Samoa. Here is a summary of the findings
60% of the offices that responded already have digitization processes in place
19% of the offices with digitization processes have digitization policies
Digitization began 10 years ago
Digitization is mainly carried out by ICT personnel
The top reasons for digitization include increase access and saving space.
